Layer houses and broiler houses
Hatchery Equipment is poultry equipment that makes it easy to hatch baby chicks from chicken eggs. A hatchery is a poultry farm that is specifically designed for hatching eggs. A hatchery will have incubators and chicken houses. A large layer house will have upwards 20 000 hens that lay eggs every day. The layer house will have nest boxes and also cocks in the chicken house. The cocks are there to fertilise the eggs so that they will hatch. In an egg production facility to produce eggs for eating there will be no cocks in the poultry house.Smaller poultry farmers use small layer chicken houses.

Small layer houses are usually made of steel. They come in various sizes - smallest size is about 3m x 3m - in a layer house this size you can only fit one layer cage - and with not much room to move around the chicken cages. A 30m x 6m. layer house can hold up to 2 rows of two tier layer cages - or 6 cages in total. Hatchery equipment is expensive and requires that the chicken farmer pays close attention to bio security. A hatchery, with incubators is a perfect place for growing eggs ... and all sorts of disease and bugs. Remember - on your layer chicken farm you always follow the egg. You visit your chickens first and then your hatchery - only after showering between visits - you should not go back to the egg layer house on the same day. Hatchery Equipment is available in South Africa. Talk about poultry at The poultry Forum.
Egg farming, or chicken farming takes many forms. You can free range your hens for free range eggs. Organic egg farming is not difficult - but you need space and for the hens to free range and space to grow your own organic vegetables. The most widely form of chicken egg farming in South Africa is intensive chicken farming. This is when your chickens, or hens, are kept inside the chicken house, in layer cages at all times.
